VANMANSART, BAILEY TODD SMITH, BRANDON EDWARD

Two Midlands men are charged in the theft of multiple cars.

Bailey Todd Vanmansart (above left), 20, of West Columbia is charged with four counts of grand larceny, one count of petit larceny and one count of criminal conspiracy, according to arrest warrants.

Brandon Edward Smith (above right), 26, of Columbia is charged with a single count of grand larceny and criminal conspiracy, according to arrest warrants.

“We’re glad all of the stolen cars have been recovered and returned to their respective owners,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Recovering a car is a rarity and these are still in relatively good condition.”

Koon said Lexington County detectives worked with the Pelion Police Department on the investigation into the car thefts.

“The daily contact our officers had with Lexington County detectives was crucial in this investigation,” Pelion Police Chief Chris Garner said. “With improved communication between the two agencies, we reached a positive resolution in this case.”

Vanmansart and Smith are being held in the Lexington County Detention Center. A judge set a $48,000 bond for Vanmansart. Smith’s bond has been set at $14,000.
