Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon recently promoted two deputies.
Eric Kirkland, 46, has been promoted to serve as a sergeant over resident deputies and code enforcement officers in the department’s north patrol region, which is based near Irmo. Kirkland, a native of Denmark, South Carolina, previously served as a detective in the department’s major crimes unit. He was appointed to serve as deputy sheriff in August 2003.
Alex Mountzouros, 28, has been promoted to investigator in the department’s major crimes unit. Mountzouros, a native of Columbia, previously served as a field training officer in the department’s north patrol region, which is based near Irmo. He was appointed to serve as deputy sheriff in May 2011.
