Sheriff Jay Koon has appointed Capt. Jenn Burns to serve as commander of the Sheriff Department’s west patrol region, which is based near Gilbert.

“Capt. Burns has shown a commitment to professionalism in her service to the people of Lexington County,” Koon said. “That level of customer service and her dedication to law enforcement make her the ideal fit to lead our operations in the west region.”

Burns is the agency’s first female region commander after previously serving as a lieutenant and assistant commander in the west region.

Burns began her law enforcement career with the Lexington Police Department after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She joined the Sheriff’s Department in 2001 and served in the narcotics unit before tenures as a road sergeant and watch commander.
