Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are asking for the public’s help as the agency investigates the use of counterfeit $100 bills at a Midlands store.

“Employees at the Dollar General on Pond Branch Road in Leesville have told our investigators two suspects used nine fake $100 bills in two separate purchases of pre-paid credit cards Saturday night,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “A third suspect tried to use fake bills, but a store employee told him the bills he presented were fake and would not be accepted.”

According to Koon, the third suspect quickly left the store and got into in a four-door car with the first two suspects.

Koon said detectives believe the same three suspects also passed $900 in counterfeit $100 bills to buy pre-paid credit cards at the Dollar General on Edmund Highway the same day.

Anyone who can identify these suspects should contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at 803-785-2400 or Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Anonymous tips can be submitted here.
