The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is accepting applications for the 39th Citizens Academy, which starts Sept. 1. The Citizens Academy gives participants a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement operations.

“Our Citizens Academy offers transparency and helps citizens have a full and complete understanding about how we serve and protect them every day,” Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We show participants many facets of law enforcement including patrol operations, narcotics enforcement, detention center operations, crime scene investigation, K9s and more.”

The deadline to apply is Aug. 25. Applications are available in the main lobby of the Lexington County Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, or online at www.lexingtonsheriff.com. There is no charge, but space is limited.

Participants must be at least 18 and have a clean criminal record. The Citizens Academy program features nine three-hour weekly sessions from Sept. 1 through Oct. 27.
