Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives have charged Sean Patrick Peters with murder in the shooting death of his estranged wife, Rachel Naomi Peters.

According to arrest warrants, Mr. Peters, 37, unlawfully entered Mrs. Peters’ residence in the 4200 block of Greenwood Drive in West Columbia and fatally shot her.

“Deputies responded to the home after a 911 call Sunday morning,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “After a short negotiation with responding deputies, Mr. Peters was arrested on prior, unrelated warrants issued in a criminal sexual conduct with a minor investigation that was initiated in early November.

“Concerning this weekend’s unfortunate incident, Mr. Peters has been charged with murder, three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor-first degree, two counts of kidnapping, and one count each of burglary-first degree and the possession of a weapon during a violent crime,” Koon said.

Peters is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center while he awaits a bond hearing.

The shooting death investigation and the previous investigation related to the other warrants are ongoing.
