The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will begin its next reserve deputy training cycle Oct. 19.
“Reserve deputies are a major component of our commitment to serve the people of Lexington County,” Sheriff Jay Koon said. “They sacrifice time away from their families to supplement the number of full-time, sworn officers who are assigned to road patrol duties.”
According to Koon, applications for a reserve deputy positions are available at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s headquarters on Gibson Road in Lexington or online at www.LexingtonSheriff.com.
Applications must be submitted by the close of business on June 30.
Under South Carolina law, reserve law enforcement officers must be 21 or older with a clean criminal record. They must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Prospective reserve deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department must pass a background investigation, polygraph examination, drug screening test and physical examination.
South Carolina law requires a reserve law enforcement officer to provide at least 60 hours of service every three months and complete at least four hours of training monthly.
The upcoming reserve deputy training cycle will consist of sessions every Wednesday between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and every Sunday between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for approximately four months.
