Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in our country and the majority of teenagers abusing them are getting the pills from inside their own homes.

This Saturday, you have a chance to safely dispose of your old or unwanted medications at Operation Take Back hosted by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

There are 4,700 collection sites nationwide – including our headquarters at 521 Gibson Road in Lexington.

“Any drugs you flush or throw away can be harmful to the environment or retrieved and eventually sold or misused,” said Capt. Adam Myrick, public information officer for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. “That’s why it’s important to bring your expired or unwanted prescriptions to our drop-off boxes so we can safely and properly dispose of them. We offer this service as a convenience to you and as a way to protect our community.”

The service is free with no questions asked. All drop-off locations are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
