LEXINGTON, S.C. – A Columbia man accused of robbing a Lexington County convenience store last month was arrested Friday.

Richard Dean Dougherty Jr.

Richard Dean Dougherty Jr., 60, is charged with armed robbery, according to an arrest warrant.

“Based on the information detectives confirmed in this case, Dougherty went into a Bush River Road convenience store and indicated, by his words and actions, that he was armed,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “He demanded money from the register and threatened to kill the clerk.”

During the execution of a search warrant at Dougherty’s home, investigators collected clothing consistent with what can be seen in store security video, according to Koon.

Dougherty is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
