The man killed after presenting a firearm at deputies Thursday night has been identified as 44-year-old Justin Coy Adkins of Saint Matthews, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

“Once Mr. Adkins was identified, our deputies determined he was wanted out of Orangeburg County for attempted murder among other charges,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “He had been flagged in the National Crime Information Center as armed and dangerous.”

The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. As per standard procedure, the deputy is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the SLED investigation and an internal review of the incident.
