LEXINGTON, S.C. – An Irmo Middle School student is being investigated after a teacher reported hearing a student make threats during a fire drill.

Detectives are interviewing the child, whose name will not be released because he’s under the age of 17, after he made a statement to a peer about ‘shooting up the school,’ according to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon. “The School Resource Officer responded immediately and it was determined the student did not have access to any weapons.”

The investigation continues.
