Six new automated external defibrillators are available for use when deputies come in contact with citizens suffering heart-related problems.
“We’re currently certifying our deputies on how to use the AED’s,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “It’s important for all of our sworn officers to understand how they work. Not only can these machines save the lives of our community members, but they can also save a first responder who might be having a medical episode.”
The six AED’s were given to the department through Lexington County Emergency Medical Services.
“We are excited to work with the Sheriff’s Office to expedite community access to these life saving devices,” EMS Chief Brian Hood said. “Our partnership with other county agencies is vital to our success as a county. Our citizens will have an even better level of care once deputies are trained and equipped to use these life-saving devices.”
Two AED’s are placed at each of the department’s three regional offices. Training is expected to be completed by the end of June.
