The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has earned its ninth Law Enforcement Accreditation Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., commonly known as CALEA.
“A team of assessors with significant public safety experience visited the department for a four-day, on-site assessment in June,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “The assessors reviewed our policies and procedures, went on ride-alongs and interviewed deputies, staff, community leaders and citizens to determine we’re maintaining high professional standards in providing professional law enforcement services.”
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is one of only 10 CALEA accredited sheriff’s departments in South Carolina. In total, LCSD is one of 41 CALEA accredited law enforcement agencies in the state.
“I’m proud of the dedication of this department’s staff for maintaining professional excellence,” said Koon, who formally accepted the accreditation award last week. “I’m especially thankful for LCSD Accreditation Manager, Katherine Luvisi, whose hard work to make sure the department is upholding CALEA standard policies and procedures doesn’t go unnoticed.”
CALEA Accreditation serves as the foundation for a successful, well-managed, community-focused public safety agency. The Law Enforcement Accreditation Award will remain in effect for four years.
