Taking a picture of a special moment helps keep that memory alive, and Andie Phipps says scrapbooking is a way of taking that one step further.

“You’re taking your memories, things that you’ve done and you’re putting them in a book in a way that you’re not just looking at a photo album,” Phipps said. “You’re looking at colors and you’re looking at expressions and you’re looking at feelings, so that when you go and pull the books back out, you can almost go back in the feeling that you had when you took the picture.”

Phipps says one of her Favorite events is Scrappin’ with the Law, a two-day scrapbooking experience held at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to benefit Explorer Post 106.

“You immediately get entered for door prizes, you get a little baggie, with a whole bunch of goodies, plus you get to hang out with not only law enforcement but other scrapbookers,” Lt. Jacob Mouser said.

Lt. Mouser will be helping out on March 3rd and 4th by serving meals to the scrapbookers and helping unload their cars. He and other Explorer post members like Sgt. Vicky Pankow say the event supports the program that has helped them prepare for the future.

“It really got gave me an opportunity to figure out if this is really what I wanted to do,” Sgt. Pankow said. “In my mind it was always I wanted to go into law-enforcement, it really gave me the hands on experience to actually to know that I wanted to go into law-enforcement.”

Post members will help throughout the event that features a silent auction, door prizes, food and more. Phipps says all that is already worth the $50 donation to sign up, but knowing it’s for a good cause is even more of a reason to try it.

“The $50 donation is exactly that, it is exactly that. It is for our future law-enforcement, people who are interested in law-enforcement,” Phipps said. “So not only are you helping them achieve their goals and dreams, but you’re trying something new.”
