The man who oversees the daily operations of the Lexington County Detention Center for Sheriff Jay Koon has successfully completed requirements for a national corrections certification.

Maj. Kevin Jones earned the Certified Corrections Executive designation from the Commission of Correctional Certification and the American Correctional Association.

“Kevin is a valued member of my staff and I’m proud of his accomplishment,” Koon said. “To become a Certified Corrections Executive, Kevin had to demonstrate his knowledge in the field of corrections and his capabilities as a jail administrator.”

Koon said Jones’ certification ensures the most current innovative and effective correctional approaches are in place at the Lexington County Detention Center.

The Certified Corrections Executive designation is available only to executives who oversee the development of policy and procedures in agencies dealing with adult offenders, according to the American Correctional Association.

Corrections professionals who earn the certification are expected to display unfailing honesty, respect for the dignity and individuality of human beings, and a commitment to professional and compassionate service.
